Where we're at (update on 2023 plans)
At this point January happy mail is late enough that I gotta admit — to myself and to you — that I missed the first month of the year. But it's okay, because things are changing around here such that I have more wiggle room.
I buried the lede in my last email, so you may have missed the announcement: I decided to sunset the happy mail program, AKA Sonya Supposedly membership. However, this is going to be a multistep process.
The first step was putting all paid subscribers (most of you receiving this behind-the-scenes note) on the complimentary plan, in order to buy time to wind things down. You are no longer being charged for Sonya Supposedly membership, but you can still access everything behind the paywall.
Subsequent steps that I still need to carry out, not necessarily in this order:
- Prorated refunds for yearly subscribers
- Two more missives to make us square (one because y'all were charged for January, and then a last one for luck)
- Turn off the paid-membership aspect of Ghost and...
- ...make sure that currently paywalled posts don't go into some weird limbo
Upshot: I expect to send happy mail in February and March, then no more. I'm sad but I'm also relieved. It will be good to focus on preparing for the baby, and hopefully continuing to work on music with Lex.
Talk more soon.
