Existential Detritus

Hey. Usually I alert you to the digital version of the latest zine in a normal newsletter, but I wanted to send a members-only progress update. Having uploaded Existential Detritus is a suitable occasion. (Scroll past this note to go straight to the zine if you wish.)

As you know, my game plan is simple:

1. Get the fucking money. (Thank you very much for helping!)
2. Amplify, connect, and fund cool up-and-comers, especially those who are illegible to legacy institutions.
3. Build resilient alliances among people who want to flourish and are willing to work for it. Make the future — my future; our future — and make it awesome.

Realistically these steps are a loop to repeat, not a linear progression — #2 feeds #1 as much as vice versa, and same goes for #3. But money is a definite dependency of the whole show, since living is expensive and all that. Consequently my first meta-mission is to nail sales, which boils down to making something that people want, then telling them about it over and over again.

I'm not a prolific writer, so I've always had to get by on insight and verve. Nonetheless it's been difficult to figure out what people want from me specifically in order to actualize that in a product. My friend Visa posited that "what people pay for is 'the expedition' in general — they wanna see you make bold moves, discover things, learn things that everyone can enjoy." Overall I think he's correct (hence quoted previously).

But like, how do I package "the expedition" into purchasable items that I can profitably produce at the relevant market-clearing price, and also be proud of as a creator? It's a tricky multivariate puzzle. And a fun challenge, to be clear! I'm grateful that I still have more time (read: runway) to continue with trial and error. My family — and friends — acting as my springboard is why I'm so determined to put myself in a position to do that for others.

Anyway, here are the upcoming experiments that I have planned, all included in your membership:

• Rabbit Rites mini trio — this is the September zine, in the mail to you tomorrow or early next week
• a creative notebook full of intuition-priming prompts, title TBD — barring unforeseen delays, this will be the October zine (eh, close enough), as well as a standalone product
• Halloween zine called Bad Thoughts, an October extra — I haven't decided whether to sell printed copies of this one, or keep it a membership-exclusive perk, but the digital version will be a freebie to entice newsletter signups or something along those lines

After those three, November's zine will likely address my experience re-converting to Christianity, since I've been ruminating on the subject for months and months now; I need the deadline as a forcing function. I'll make the digital version free since I've been teasing my grand Godpost for so long on Twitter, etc. Then perhaps a winter-themed anthology with outside contributors? As always, these notions will solidify once it's time to begin the manuscripts. Of course, I will continue my other regular programs such as Wanderverse.
